Jacket crowns are full porcelain ceramic crowns cover that protects the entire surface of a tooth. A crown is a tooth-shaped protective cover of a tooth that’s chipped, broken or missing. Crowns are used to strengthen the tooth when the remaining structure can no longer support filling. A crown is cemented in all remaining visible structure to strengthen and improve its appearance.

For anterior teeth Jacket crowns are often recommended, as they have the translucency of natural teeth, and you’ll benefit from this jacket crown by having a permanently restored, functional & esthetic looking teeth that fuse with your own teeth.

Definition:

A type of dental crown is a restoration that completely covers or caps a tooth or dental implant and is usually bound to the tooth using dental cement. Crowns can be made of many materials normally produced by out-of-mouth methods. Crowns are often used to indicate the strength or appearance of the teeth and improve the smile. Full-porcelain (ceramic) dental materials include porcelain, ceramic or GLASSY fillings & crowns (aka jacket crown, can also be a metal free option).

Jacket Crowns Overview

Jacket crowns & bridges won’t rust & the usual black gum as you can see around a porcelain fused to metal crown, won’t happen, because of the strong ceramic material that is used. The hot and cold sensations you might feel with other crowns does not normally occur because of the lack of electrical conductivity.

Jacket Crowns Procedures consist of:

  • Removing parts of the structure of your natural tooth to accommodate the crown.
  • A temporary crown will be fitted between visits while your custom crown is made in our laboratory from an impression of the original tooth
  • Temporary crown is removed and your new custom dental jacket crown is securely tied in place
